Darryl Salerno has spent more than 25 years in the management of public relations agencies in the United States. Having served as a CEO, COO, CFO and CAO at several major agencies, he is singularly qualified to understand all aspects of the business.
Currently, Darryl runs Second Quadrant Solutions, a consultancy that helps professional service organizations improve their performance, profitability, productivity, effectiveness and overall long-term financial health. He is the company’s founder and also serves as a chief consultant and instructor.
Before founding Second Quadrant Solutions, Darryl was chairman and chief executive officer of Magnet Communications (now Euro RSCG Magnet) and Creamer Dickson Basford (CDB). In these roles, he was responsible for driving business development, acquisitions, strategic alliances, joint ventures and the day-to-day operations for the North American public relations holdings of Havas Advertising, then the 5th largest communications company in the world.
Under his leadership, in less than two years, the agency grew significantly from a small, struggling entity with 36 employees to the 22nd largest in the U.S. and one of the most admired in the business. This was accomplished through an employee-focused management philosophy, several strategic acquisitions and organic growth of nearly 75 percent.
During the same period, Magnet was rated the 18th Best Public Relations Agency to Work For by The Holmes Report, which noted, "The turnaround at Magnet Communications (formerly CDB) has been nothing short of remarkable. The firm, once regarded as a sweatshop, has developed into one of the most progressive workplaces in the industry."
Prior to CDB and Magnet, Darryl served as chief financial officer for both Edelman Public Relations and Ruder-Finn.
Before joining Ruder-Finn, he worked for 18 years at Burson-Marsteller. In addition to handling public relations activities for Merrill Lynch, Burger King and Johnson Wax, he held a number of key roles, including worldwide director of finance, chief administrative officer/New York, worldwide director of information technology, president of BM Enterprises and director of creative services.
As worldwide director of finance and chief administrative officer, Darryl was responsible for all financial processes and provided strategic business planning and direction for the organization. He was instrumental in developing all financial management tools and the conversion to a state-of-the-art financial system.
In addition to his financial and administrative expertise, he has significant experience in several communications disciplines. As president of BM Enterprises and director of creative services, Darryl managed operations in sports, entertainment and event marketing; design; audio-visual; communications training; and video and slide production.
Darryl is a member of the American Society for Training & Development, the Public Relations Society of America and the American Mensa Society.
